The First Baptist Church at 8th St. had its steeple blew off and go right through the roof. The Florida Today web site had a pic of the steeple inside the auditorium.

Here is a photo from inside of the Baptist Church. See the steeple purtruding thru the roof.

windows

Any window washers out there? <lol>

Workers.

It is a slow process but workers are struggling to rake shovel and wheel barrow the sand off the lawn and back to the beach.

2 of the laborers.

At the start. Just getting a start looking for a place to walk was tough.

Airconditioners are full of sand.

We are praying we have all the sand washed out of all the A/C units so we don't have to replace any of them. Only time will tell.

Sidewalk in courtyard.

This will give you an idea of what we had to take off a large part of the lawn. This is sidewalk in courtyard between 117 and 118, the pool being to the left.

Doing it by hand.

We shoveled and wheel barrowed the sand from the sidewalk and the lawn.

Back and forth.

Will it ever be green again?

It took a lot of man hours and hard back breaking labor

but we are starting to showing some progress here.

Just keep raking, shoveling and hauling.

We want it back to the way it was.

Working on soffits

Hopefully we can go ahead and get the soffits done on all three buildings. Notice how deep the sand blasted the wood. It went all the way down to the old layers of blue and also past that down the the bare wood in some places.

Everyone remember Tom Vogt?

Tom has come back to help us clean up. He has been an awsome help during this time. Ron is helping us also.

First try.

Tom Vogt makes attempt with small pump to remove the sand. We ended up renting a bad pump and it didn't work the first try. Tom firmly believed this method would work to try to save the pool surface from the shovels. Who knows how many man hours of digging.

Ron walks on water

Hey folks, that is 6' where Ron is kneeling in the water. Can you imagine how deep the sand is? They figured over 92 cubic yards of sand had to come out.

We are off to a good start.

We found that the hose just didn't keep putting the water in as fast as we needed it to.

The workers...well and Mr. Snodgrass

The pump worked at removing the sand with water, however, the big problem was keeping enough water in the pool to keep the sand going out. We tried using water hoses, but it was too slow. We decided to rent a second pump to bring the water from the ocean to the pool. Can you believe it worked like a charm! Thank God for our owners that volunteered their help. Mr. and Mrs. Snodgrass are here helping.

Brad and Jill working to try to get the detail work done.

We are seeing green again folks, believe it or not, from the pool to the front lobby. SLOWLY but surely the pool is coming along also.

Fran coming behind Brad and Jill with the hose.

We are getting back to the way it was before. We still need flowers but we are waiting for the fall flowers to come in.
